The Slice Kingdom Story
Every KAEK design comes with a chapter. Book One introduces the characters — read it here, and collect the story cards that ship with each design.
Chapter 1 — The Day the Sprinkles Fell
(The Rainbow Rae chapter — Drop 1, Design 1)
Slice Kingdom is a very small kingdom, in a very big world.
It has a castle made of frosting. It has a road made of sprinkles. And one morning, at the very start of everything, something happened that had never happened before.
It rained sprinkles.
Not water. Not snow. Sprinkles! Pink ones, blue ones, yellow ones — tap, tap, tapping on the rooftops, bouncing off the bakery awning, rolling down Sprinkle Road like tiny rolling rainbows.
And right in the middle of the sprinkle rain stood a little slice of vanilla cake with a swirl of white frosting and the biggest smile in the kingdom.
Her name was Rainbow Rae.
Rae didn't run inside like everybody else. Rae held out her hands and caught the sprinkles, one by one, and every sprinkle she caught stuck to her frosting in a brand-new color.
"Every color belongs somewhere," Rae said. "Today, they belong to everybody."
By lunchtime, the whole kingdom was covered in sprinkles — and nothing in Slice Kingdom was ever plain again.
That's how the story starts. With color.
Chapter 2 — Berry, the First Slice
(The Berry chapter — Drop 1, Design 2)
Every kingdom needs somebody who looks out for everybody else.
In Slice Kingdom, that's Berry.
Berry is a strawberry slice — pink frosting, a bright red strawberry sitting on top like a crown she never asked for — and she is the oldest slice in the kingdom, which makes her the big sister of, well, everyone.
If a sprinkle rolls away, Berry finds it. If the bakery line is too long, Berry holds your place. If you're new and you don't know anybody yet, Berry is the first face you see, and she's already waving.
"Big slices go first," Berry always says, "so the little slices know the way is safe."
Some slices are sweet. Some slices are strong. Berry decided a long time ago to be both.
When you see Berry's thumbs-up, it means: you belong here. It means: I checked, and everything is going to be okay.
In Slice Kingdom, that's the most important job there is.
Chapter 3 — Two Sisters, One Kingdom
(The Sister Slices chapter — Drop 1, Design 3)
Berry has a little sister.
Her name is Blu, and she is the littlest slice in the whole kingdom — so little that her whole hand fits inside Berry's hand, with room left over.
Blu doesn't say much. Blu watches. Blu notices things nobody else notices: the sprinkle that landed upside-down, the bird that sings before the sun is up, the exact moment the frosting on the castle catches the light.
One day, Berry found Blu standing very still at the top of Cherry Hill, looking out at the whole kingdom.
"What do you see?" Berry asked.
"Everything," said Blu. "I'm just looking at it slowly."
Berry sat down next to her little sister and held her hand, and the two of them looked at everything, slowly, together.
That's the thing about sisters. One of them goes first, so the way is safe. And one of them looks slowly, so nothing beautiful gets missed.
Slice Kingdom needs them both.
Chapter 4 — The Little Bakery
(The Slice Squad chapter — Drop 1, Design 4)
At the end of Sprinkle Road stands the Little Bakery, and the Little Bakery is where the Slice Squad meets.
There's Coco, the chocolate slice, who is calm the way warm cocoa is calm, and who thinks every problem gets smaller after a snack and a nap.
There's Lemmy, the lemon slice, bright as morning, who laughs first and asks questions later, and who can cheer up a whole room just by walking into it.
And there's Minty, the mint slice, cool and gentle, who remembers everybody's favorite everything, and always — always — saves you a seat.
Rae brings the color. Berry brings the courage. Blu brings the wonder. And Coco, Lemmy, and Minty bring the thing the kingdom runs on:
Friendship, fresh out of the oven, every single day.
Six little slices. One little bakery. That's the Slice Squad — and now you know everybody.
The adventures can begin.
Chapter 5 — The Sprinkle Map
(The Lil Slice chapter — Drop 1, Design 5 — releases with the fifth design)
On the last night of the first week, Blu found something under the bakery door.
It was a map.
Not a map of somewhere else. A map of Slice Kingdom — the whole kingdom, drawn in frosting: Frosting Castle, where nobody has ever been inside. The Strawberry River, that runs pink in the spring. Cherry Hill. Moon Meringue Meadow, where the grass glows a little after dark.
And at the very edge of the map, past everything anybody knows, there was one more place — drawn with a question mark.
Blu carried the map to the bakery, holding it with both hands, the way you carry something that matters.
"Where should we go first?" asked Rae.
Blu looked at the map for a long, slow moment. Then she pointed at the castle.
"There," she said. "We start at the beginning."
The story continues in Book Two: The Frosting Castle — coming with the next drop.
